Parent Coaching Institute Founder Announces Book Reprint in a Japanese Textbook
A portion of Gloria DeGaetano's book, Screen Smarts: A Family Guide to Media Literacy, has been selected for reprint in a Japanese textbook to help high school students

BELLINGHAM, WA, July 29, 2026 -- The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) is pleased to announce that PCI Founder and CEO, Gloria DeGaetano, has had a portion of one of her books reprinted in a Japanese textbook. Kwansei Gakuin University will include the selection from Screen Smarts in two publications, one current through 2027, the other for the 2027-2029 edition of the textbook. The reprint includes a simple Japanese translation and explanation of the section, "As Children Grow: Screen Influence" to help high school students understand its meaning and difficult grammatical points in the text.
Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) is located in the Kansai region, with its main campus in the city of Nishinomiya in Hyogo Prefecture. KGU also has other campuses in the cities of Nishinomiya, Sanda, Osaka, and Tokyo.
"I am so honored that KGU had contacted me about this," states DeGaetano. "They are a prestigious university who partners with 320 universities and 60 organizations around the world. I was impressed how they paid attention to every small detail in their inquiry, so the reprint process proved a smooth one."
The 2027-2029 edition is being published in affiliation with the Schools of Theology, Sociology, Economics, International Studies, and Education. The actual publisher is Kyogakusha, based in Kyoto that publishes collections of past university entrance exams as each university/college sets its own entrance exams every year in Japan. Their publications are specifically designed to provide authentic university entrance exam papers at affordable prices for high school students, typically around 17 years old, who may not have the financial means to access private tutoring.
DeGaetano adds, "I was delighted that they chose the selection regarding screen influence. Although Screen Smarts is an older book, the research still stands today with our complex technology: The more children stare into a two-dimensional flat surface, the less their brain develops optimally. Tech cannot do what sensory and lived experiences do to help little humans flourish. This has been my message for over 30 years now. And an integral part of the parent coach training program I developed."
