Holly Adams Backs President Trump's Stand on Birthright Citizenship

Vows Congressional Action

CINCINNATI, OH, April 02, 2026 -- Holly Adams, Republican candidate for Ohio's First Congressional District, today voiced her strong support for President Donald Trump's efforts to end automatic birthright citizenship and pledged to act in Congress to codify the policy into law.

President Trump has made birthright citizenship a central issue of his immigration agenda, signing an executive order that would deny automatic citizenship to children born in the United States if neither parent is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. The policy is currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court and could reshape how the 14th Amendment is interpreted moving forward.

Adams says the issue goes beyond immigration — it is about restoring integrity to American citizenship.

"President Trump is absolutely right to challenge a system that has been exploited for far too long," said Adams. "Birthright citizenship was never intended to incentivize illegal immigration or allow people to game the system through 'birth tourism.' We must restore the original meaning of citizenship and put American families first."

The Trump administration argues that the 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause has been misinterpreted for decades and that citizenship should apply only to those fully subject to U.S. jurisdiction — not individuals in the country illegally or temporarily.

Adams emphasized that Congress must act regardless of how the courts rule.

"As a member of Congress, I will support legislation that makes it clear: citizenship in the United States is a privilege tied to allegiance — not simply geography," Adams said. "We cannot continue policies that encourage illegal entry and strain our schools, healthcare system, and economy."

Adams also pointed to the broader national implications, noting that the current system is believed to impact hundreds of thousands of births each year and remains a key factor in the ongoing immigration debate.

"This is about fairness, sovereignty, and the rule of law," Adams added. "If we are serious about securing our borders and protecting American workers, we must address birthright citizenship."

Adams said she will work alongside President Trump and like-minded lawmakers to ensure that any reform is permanent, enforceable, and reflective of the original intent of the Constitution.
