Fairmax Law Partners With Legal Aid Society of Cleveland to Take Monthly Pro Bono Bankruptcy Cases in 2026

Partnership will help low-income Northeast Ohio residents move forward with bankruptcy filings that can stop wage garnishments, restore utilities and provide debt relief.

CLEVELAND, OH, March 31, 2026 -- Fairmax Law has partnered with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland to expand access to pro bono bankruptcy representation for low-income individuals. Under the partnership, Fairmax Law will take on multiple pro bono bankruptcy cases each month, with Legal Aid helping clients gather and organize documents before Fairmax Law attorneys represent them through the filing process.

The partnership aims to help local residents address urgent financial problems that can destabilize households, including wage garnishments and loss of utility service. These filings can significantly help restore utilities, stop garnishments and secure a fresh financial start.

As part of the partnership, Legal Aid will screen eligible clients, assist with gathering and organizing documents, and refer bankruptcy cases to Fairmax Law. Attorneys from Fairmax Law will then provide full legal representation through the filing process under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, founded in 1905 as the fifth-oldest legal aid organization in the United States, is the only civil legal aid provider in Northeast Ohio. It serves residents of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Lorain counties and in 2024, assisted more than 25,700 people through 9,700 cases. While Legal Aid offers guidance on debt collection, wage garnishment and bankruptcy options, it does not routinely provide full courtroom representation in bankruptcy matters.

For Fairmax Law, this partnership strengthens its public-facing commitment to debt relief work in Ohio, where the firm lists a Cleveland office and additional locations across the state.
