New Book Focuses on Legal Actions Brought by and against President Donald Trump & Company
The cost of defending Trump 2.0's lawsuits is unknown, but the long-term risks to democracy are frightening.

ELVAS, PORTUGAL, December 04, 2025 -- What happens when a criminal — a convicted felon — occupies the White House? He destroys it … along with the rule of law, civil liberties, freedoms, and justice for all across the United States of America. In the process, litigation becomes a routine occurrence to buy time, challenge norms and regulations, and exceed the powers delegated to him.
Seeing the people's house torn down to be replaced with a presidential palace is a testament to Trump's unprincipled approach to power and privilege.
In the first book to focus on the legal actions brought by and against Trump & Company, award-winning author Bruce H. Joffe details how Donald Trump and his administration have used and abused jurisprudence. "Unprecedented …" Criminal in the White House chronicles the damage suffered by the country as a president defies his oath of office with actions beyond his authority and contrary to the Constitution.
"The idea of a convicted felon ascending to the presidency is a notion that many would find unfathomable," states the author. "If a Republican criminal were to take office, one could foresee a profound shift in the political landscape. The implications of such a presidency would ripple through all branches of government, particularly if the GOP holds a majority in Congress and the Supreme Court, raising concerns about checks and balances."
The Trump 2.0 administration has faced an "unprecedented" volume of litigation, a word that's been used about Trump's presidency countless times.
As of May 1 — 101 days into Trump 2.0's administration —Bloomberg News reported over 328 lawsuits have been filed challenging Mr. Trump's executive orders, proclamations and policy decisions and Cabinet members' actions, according to Steve Corbin, writing in the November 25, 2025, issue of the Times-Republican. Legal challenges have been placed against each of the 21 Cabinet members' respective endeavors.
"The volume of legal battles poses significant long-term risks to American democracy, let alone the cost to Americans who will have to pay attorney fees to defend Donald J. Trump, Cabinet members, and other officials' actions," warns Corbin. "The cost of defending Trump 2.0's … lawsuits is unknown but the long-term risks to democracy are frightening."
Lawsuits are not new to Donald Trump, who has encountered "at least 5,695 lawsuits in his lifetime," Corbin reveals. A comprehensive review by USA Today, published on July 7, 2016, indicated that Trump had been involved in at least 4,095 lawsuits where he was the defendant. These include a wide range of civil and criminal cases, from business disputes to defamation, political campaigns, casinos, taxes, golf clubs, real estate, government investigations and sexual abuse. For his part, Trump filed a documented minimum of 1,600 lawsuits against other individuals and organizations.
As allegations against Trump continue to emerge, grassroots movements and political activism have surged, highlighting a collective demand for transparency and ethical leadership. These movements play a vital role in fostering civic engagement and pressuring lawmakers to uphold democratic principles.
