Launch of 'We are One', the Largest Volunteer Group in South Korea

A new volunteer organization in South Korea kicked off its first formal event after hosting a record-breaking blood drive that helped solve Korea's blood shortage.

SEOUL, KOREA, August 09, 2022 -- Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony has launched a youth volunteer group consisting of approximately 70,000 members within South Korea and 20,000 overseas. One of the activities they recently participated in was an unprecedented volunteer blood drive that resulted in a record of 18,819 blood donations over 17 days, a huge contribution to resolving the blood shortage within South Korea.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus held a launching ceremony for the youth volunteer group 'We Are One' at the convention center of The-K Hotel in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on July 30 with more than 1,000 representatives of the volunteer group and people from all walks of life. The other 90,000 volunteers who were not able to attend watched through a live broadcast. The inauguration ceremony consisted of an opening ceremony (performances, a national ritual, greetings, and a congratulatory speech) followed by the inauguration ceremony (commemorative video, launch declaration, special performance, and a commemorative photo shoot). In order to commemorate the launch, the 'We Are One' Volunteer Corps began participating in the blood donation campaign at each blood center located in 17 metropolitan governments including Seoul, Busan, Incheon, and Daegu. They plan to conduct the life-sharing volunteer work for three months.

Jae-yong Eom, president of the Seoul Southern Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross, who participated in the congratulatory speech, said, "Congratulations on the launch of the Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One'. Also, thank you for choosing to participate in the first volunteer activity as a blood donation campaign. It is expected that this will be a great help in dealing with the recent rise of COVID-19 and the crisis situation during the holiday period. I wish you good health and good luck."

At the event, Shincheonji Chairman Man-hee Lee said, "We are born in this age and have an obligation to illuminate and develop this age. If God the Creator is with us, nothing is impossible. Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself so let us all unite and make a better world."

The 'We Are One' Volunteer Corps is a social service group formed of 90,000 domestic and foreign youth members belonging to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus. In addition to blood donation, 'We Are One' established an activity plan to take the lead in solving national challenges and global crises by practicing love for the social community and neighbors in the areas of support service, creating a sustainable environment, world peace and education.

'We Are One' CEO Hong Junsu said, "We discussed a lot about the problems and solutions that young people are facing today. There are many members of the 'We Are One' volunteer group with various talents, such as founders, planning developers, designers, medical personnel, and social welfare experts. Together with them, we will solve the problems of the younger generation and take the lead in creating a better world."
