Not Drug Testing 35,000 Fatal Crash Drivers in 2017 an Alarming Traffic Safety Problem

No valid drug test for 35,000, 67% of the 52,274 fatal crash drivers, and no valid alcohol test for 31,000, 60%. 8 states had NO valid drug test result for more than 1,000 drivers.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 20, 2018 -- Marijuana at 19.2%, the No. 1 killer drug in fatal crash drivers with the percentage up 41% in 5 years. DUI still No.1, but up less than 1% in 2017, and down 7% in five years. Note that 8 states had marijuana percentage higher than the DUI level of 27.9%. Narcotic presence is declining, now 6% in 2017 vs. 16% in 2016.

9 states now have no penalty for marijuana possession, blurring the line between recreational and legal use.

"Traffic safety leaders at national and state level must be held accountable for the pitiful testing levels which hide the true extent of Marijuana and DUI in fatal crashes," says Al Crancer.
