LOS ANGELES, CA, June 03, 2021 -- Happyplace Labs, Inc, the NFT + social startup, today announced the phase 1 launch of happyplace.market, the eco-friendly social marketplace for NFT artists and collectors. In celebration of the launch, happyplace is working with Los Angeles-based 3D artist Ian Alexander for a June 14th give-away of 100 exclusive limited editions NFT's titled "No Sleep" with each edition number uniquely included within the artwork itself.
NFTs have proven to be widely successful for many artists but a growing concern among many artists and collectors alike is the environmental impact caused by the ongoing transactions of NFTs. The concern is specifically with those marketplaces minting NFTs but are still dependent on Ethereum 1.0 smart contracts where the blockchain consensus mechanism is based on 'Proof of Work' and requires a massive amount of processing power.
Happyplace, having previously developed smart contracts on Ethereum, decided to move to a new eco-friendly, 'Proof of Stake' based blockchain, Flow by Dapper Labs. Flow is the same blockchain powering the hugely successful NFT project, NBA Top Shot.
"We believe global climate change is a real threat and we just didn't want our NFT platform to add to the problem," says Michael Martinho, CEO of Happyplace Labs. "Going with Flow made a lot of sense for us, their background is NFTs, their developer documentation is fantastic and they have a thriving and friendly developer community."
