Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport has celebrated its 97th anniversary on May 25th, 2021. IEV hopes to more than double its passenger flow (to about 1.5 million passengers), which had fallen 3.7-fold, to 704.5 thousand passengers, in 2020.

KYIV, UKRAINE, June 02, 2021 -- Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport has celebrated its 97th anniversary on May 25th, 2021.

IEV hopes to more than double its passenger flow (to about 1.5 million passengers), which had fallen 3.7-fold, to 704.5 thousand passengers, in 2020.

The main factor hindering the growth of passenger throughput is the EU restriction for the Ukrainian citizens.

A ban imposed on flights to/from Belarus will add to the problem, since these flights brought about 10% of the airport's passenger flow.

At the same time, Mr. Denys Kostrzhevskyi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IEV, noted a significant delayed demand, which may become a driver for a promising increase in passenger flow in the event of removal or relaxation of travel restrictions.

Mr. Kostrzhevskyi said that in May 2021, IEV will welcome about 70,000 passengers, which makes up 25-30% of the airport capacity.

2018 was a peak year for the airport, when it served more than 2.8 million passengers with its ultimate capacity approximating 3.5 million.

The passenger flow for the first four months of this year amounted to 142,270 passengers, including 134,230 passengers – to international destinations. In April, the passenger number has reached 54,010 passengers as compared to 35,970 in March and 23,060 in February.

Kyiv International Airport is located 7 km from the city center. The airport has three terminals with a total area of 31,000 square meters. A separate terminal for business aviation – Terminal B – is part of the FBO system. The airport runway allows to receive aircrafts type B-737, A-320.
