In the spring of 2020, HotFlash founder Janet Kosloff was looking for a fun, social and competitive game to play at home during the pandemic, and was introduced to the game of Canasta. She noticed that while there was a passionate community of players on-line, nobody was happy with the online options available. As a recently retired tech entrepreneur, she couldn't help but dream of a better solution. So she built one.
Enlisting the help of a team of fellow tech entrepreneurs and game developers, they created the ultimate game of Canasta, incorporating features that players love, and creating new features the community was interested in. "We wanted to build a game that was as comfortable an environment for a player who considers themselves an expert, as well as a new player who wants to learn the game, and that was the guiding principle for how we designed the game. From the ranking system to the way that it teaches the game to new players, our hope is that players of any level will find a home in our game and community."
HotFlash Canasta attracted the attention of Helaine Neiman, a professional Canasta Instructor (www.mastacanasta.com) who joined the company to run customer acquisition, and as an instructor. "I loved the gameplay of HotFlash. The interface truly makes it feel like you're playing with friends right next to you, when they could be across the country! It's a great way to improve your skill or have a late-night Canasta marathon. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the Step Away feature. HotFlash Canasta is a multiplayer game that allows players to join up with friends to play, join a game and meet new people, or play alone against smart bots that simulate live players. There are options built-in for new players to learn how to play the game.
"The multiplayer platform that powers this game will be used for other planned card and other social games releasing from HotFlash over the next 12 months, many designed with an audience of women in mind," Kosloff said.
