SBD International Airport Boosts Convenience, Not Landing Fees
Customers to Enjoy Efficient New Billing System—And Fees That Haven't Increased In 20 Years
SAN BERNARDINO, CA, April 06, 2021 -- The landing fees at SBD International Airport have not increased since 2001 and remain among the lowest in the region—and soon, customers landing at SBD will have a convenient new way to pay them. On April 1, 2021, the Airport will begin using PlanePass, an automated billing solution by Vector Airport Systems. The system affords seamless billing and payments for customers, and it will free Airport staff to focus on other duties.
For the last 20 years, the Airport has assessed aircraft with a Maximum Landing Weight (MLW) over 12,500 pounds at the rate of $1 per 1,000 pounds while those weighing less land free of charge. "With much of the aviation industry upended by the pandemic, keeping our landing fee low is vital to our customers, from individual pilots to large carriers," says Mark Gibbs, the Airport's Director of Aviation. "Now more than ever, they know they can rely on SBD to help keep their costs down."
Starting April 1, customers will further benefit from greater efficiency in billing and payments when the Airport transitions to PlanePass. The system automatically captures aircraft IDs, calculates fees, and bills operators, who then pay using a self-service portal. PlanePass is also contactless—a necessary safeguard to protect customers and staff.
"SBD is committed to providing the easiest way into Southern California, and PlanePass will ensure that our billing and payment process is a completely seamless experience for customers," says Airport Manager Nikolas Persson. "It will also provide valuable data about airport activity yet requires little or no effort by staff."
