NASCA Honors Outgoing President Daniel Kim, California

For his commitment to raising the national profile of state government's chief operational leaders.

LEXINGTON, KY, January 07, 2021 -- As President of the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA), California's Director of General Services, Dan Kim, focused his attention on advancing the national profile of state Chief Administrators and elevating the industry of government operations. His tenure included national research that moved the needle on government transformation, collaborative strategic partnerships and elevated strategic government workforce practices.

Not long into his tenure, the role of Chief Administrators and their teams heightened as NASCA members served on the front lines of the nation's response to the global health pandemic ensuring continuity of core operational functions, rapidly procuring protective equipment, managing stockpiles, implementing telework processes, securing facilities, and training supervisors to lead remotely while coupled with state economic challenges.

"I think the pandemic has made many recognize the critical role Chief Administrators play in state government and how important it is to align government operations with larger policy goals," noted Kim. "NASCA has helped stimulate both, and I will continue to follow what the association does to promote good government in the future."

Under Kim's leadership, Chief Administrators from around the nation met weekly during the pandemic response to react and collaborate around changing operational needs and federal guidelines; a virtual Thought Leadership Series was implemented, and robust relationships with private sector partners were expanded.

Additionally, prior to Kim's tenure as President, he served as the Chair of NASCA's Program Committee leading a national boot camp to train twenty newly appointed Chief Administrators. He propelled the NASCA research and policy platform to the national stage, overseeing good government campaigns and policy recommendations that helped inform a bold new vision for government workforce.

"It has been an honor to serve as NASCA President and work with the staff and my colleagues from other states," said Kim. "NASCA has afforded me an opportunity to learn from fellow Chief Administrators and experts throughout the public and private sectors."

Kim will be assuming a new role as Assistant County Administrator for Yolo County, California.
