World Champion Handball Player, Josef Gotsch, to Compete in 12th Annual USHA Wallball Nationals

Handball World Champion Set to Compete against Worlds Best at USHA Wallball Nationals this weekend in New York.

NEW YORK, NY, June 20, 2019 -- Josef Gotsch is the face of professional hand ball, having competed at the Worlds in 2018 and earned the title of World Champion. Gotsch took home both a Gold and Bronze medal in the sport and is an active advocate for increasing awareness for professional hand ball. This weekend, the champion will compete against some of the world's best handball athletes at the US Handball Association's 12th Annual Nationals Championships. The competitions will be conducted over the entire weekend, and is set to go down at Brooklyn's famed Coney Island.

"I'm looking forward to this event, it'll be my first National attendance and I look forward to competing and doing the best I can," the athlete was quoted.

In early spring, Josef flew to Texas to compete in minor tournaments and visited Forman Elementary School in Plano, TX to do wallball demonstrations for the 1st-5th grade students there.

"I love working with youth and showing them how to play this sport," said Gotsch.

He spent half a day teaching the students about the game and showing them how to play it. Before leaving, he gifted the school with tubs of wallballs to help jumpstart the game of wallball in their physical education programs. Being part of active awareness and advocacy for the sport is at the heart of this extraordinary athlete.

"It's amazing to me to see how far handball has come, a lot can be accomplished when the community works together, " said Gotsch.

In addition to attending smaller wallball tournaments across the country, the World Champion represented the United States in London for the European Championships earlier this year. Following that performance, Gotsch spent the better part of the off-season focused on recovery, health & nutrition, and training.

Gotsch is set to compete in the Open and Pro Divisions of the USHA Nationals, and will be up against the best players in the world. The theme of this year's Nationals competition is "Helping Others by Giving Back". A FREE Youth Handball Clinic will be offered on Saturday to kick off events.  The NYPD, NYFD  and NYCD will be present with recruitment and outreach tables.  Local media, NY1 has confirmed coverage for the event!

Draws and start times will be published by Friday and can be viewed from the USHA's official website.
